I have been involved in developing and extending theoretical frameworks and models that explain household adoption and use of technology. In addition to developing a model termed model of adoption of technology in households (MATH), my work has extended this model by incorporating the household life cycle perspective from consumer behavior research, and both papers were published in MIS Quarterly in 2001 and 2005 respectively. The original MATH was developed based on qualitative data gathered via interviews of hundreds of heads of households all over the U.S. The proposed baseline model was then tested via a survey of hundreds of households and extended using the household life cycle perspective that considered the stage of life of households (e.g., young bachelor, empty nest). Beyond these two papers that focused primarily on adoption, a recent paper appeared in The Information Society that examined MATH in the context of PC use in households.
